Teaching and Learning Strategy: The module uses a learner-centred approach which acknowledges the variety of learning preferences in the classroom. It is highly interactive and primarily workshop-based, incorporating opportunities for learning by doing and through engagement with fellow students. Students will participate in activities designed to facilitate the development of their learning skills and strategies, aimed to enhance their ability to engage with and participate in modules taken during the course of their studies.
Learning Environment: This module can be taught in a classroom setting and may incorporate a variety of delivery methods, both online and face-to-face.
Module Description: The purpose of this module is to aid students in their learning process and to assist in the transition to higher education. To guide learners towards identifying, developing and using the key skills needed to successfully manage their learning for Higher Education. To enhance student engagement and participation and consequently academic success in the modules taken during the course of their study.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Apply a variety of learning skills and strategies that coincide with their learning strengths and preferences.
LO2 Evaluate their strengths and weaknesses and implement a self-development plan which reflects on the actions needed to further their learning skills and strategies.
LO3 Demonstrate their reading, writing, note-taking, summarising and time-management skills, displaying evidence of the skills needed to avoid plagiarism and maintain appropriate ethical standards for academic writing.
LO4 Manage their own learning in a group setting through preparation of a group project and participation in a peer-assessment exercise.
LO5 Communicate effectively in a variety of modes (i.e. oral and written).
