Understand the characteristics of management in an early childhood education context. |

Explain theories and models of early childhood education management and leadership |
LO3 |
Demonstrate an awareness of the National Standards, Tusla inspection process, Siolta and Aistear in designing and maintaining a quality early childhood education setting. |
LO4 |
Demonstrate an ability to draw up policies and procedures for running an ECE setting. |

Exploring the defining characteristics of managing within an educational context.

Models of Educational Leadership
Examination of differing theorectical models of leadership in education, such as: Instructional leadership; Managerial leadership; Transactional leadership; Transformational leadership; Participative leadership.

Organisational Structures and Roles
Bureaucracy; Collegiality; Distributed leadership; Micropolitics; Leadership and Management roles; role conflict and ambiguity.

Managing People
Recruitment and Selection; Induction and retention; Managing Performance; Diversity.

Complying with Early Childhood Regulations and Quality Controls
Writing policies and procedures; auditing a setting; Complying with Preschool Regulations 2006 – personnel and children’s records; Quality control – Siolta.
