Teaching and Learning Strategy: This module will be delivered using a combination of lectures, tutorials, mock interviews, peer learning and guest lectures. Learners will develop practical skills in relation to interviewing as well as career planning and job analysis. Where appropriate, multi-media clips and learning technology will be utilised to facilitate flexible learning opportunities. Students will be expected to carry out recorded mock interviews and participate in peer review activities.
Learning Environment: Learning will take place in a classroom environment. Learners will have access to library resources, both physical and electronic, outside the classroom where required. Selected module materials will be placed on Moodle, the college's virtual learning environment
Module Description: This module aims to instil in students the value of continuous personal and professional development and to develop students who can independently self-manage their careers, identify and apply for career opportunities, network effectively and promote themselves at interview. Students will also have the knowledge, skills and competencies to produce a professional career plan related to their preferred career path.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
LO1 Reflect on their career motivations – and consider career options open to them taking into consideration internal and external motivations and influences.
LO2 Have the ability to interpret skills and competencies employers seek and be confident in mapping and presenting their competencies to recruiters.
LO3 Identify and evaluate a range of career opportunities directly related to the BA in Learning & Development and those available to graduates of all disciplines.
LO4 Have developed the ability to network effectively and promote themselves at interview.
LO5 Recognise the importance of their CV, cover letter and online brand as self promotion tools
LO6 Reflect on their recent career choices and produce a career plan that meets their long term aspirations.
