1. The Irish Legal System
Sources of Irish Law Civil Law and Criminal Law Administration of Justice Regulators Alternative Methods of Resolving Disputes
2. The Law of Contract
Formation of Contracts - offer, acceptance, consideration and intention to create legal relations. Matters affecting the validity of the contract – contract formalities, capacity, duress and undue influence, mistake, misrepresentation. Contractual Terms - express and implied. Discharge of Contracts Remedies for Breach of Contract.
3. Commercial Law
Types of Business Organisation – Formation and Advantages. Agency Law. Consumer Protection – consumer rights legislation, equality. Data Protection Law.
4. Tort Law
Distinguish Between Tort and Contractual Liability. Law of Negligence. Business Torts – Passing Off - Occupiers’ Liability – Product Liability. Defamation. Defences and Redress.

Assessment Description:
Learners will be provided with a Multiple Choice Quiz comprised of at least 50 questions. Questions will be a mix of conventional multiple-choice questions: scenario-based multiple-choice questions, alternate choice, odd one out, incomplete scenarios (to identify gaps using multiple choice answers) and/or true-false questions. Students may also be required to write/type answers to bespoke cases study questions, or short answer questions.

Reassessment of this module will consist of a repeat examination. It is possible that there will also be a requirement to be reassessed in a coursework element.
Reassessment Description
Learners will be required to undertake a repeat Multiple-Choice Quiz which assesses all learning outcomes.
