Accident reporting and investigation.
Accident prevention.
HSA reporting requirements.
Emergency Response and Evacuation.
Causes, prevention, and classification of fire and fire extinguishers.
Static electricity.
Emergency planning.
Emergency response and evacuation procedure.
Safety Statement, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
Role and contents of a safety statement.
Identification of hazards.
Chemical and biological legislation, route of exposures, OELs, controlling exposure, MSDS, storage and labeling of hazardous materials, hazmat warning symbols.
Identify physical hazards such as noise, manual handling and examine related legislation and control strategies.
PPE Regulations & Standards, limitations of PPE.
Environmental Awareness and Waste Management.
Describe concepts concerning waste management e.g. waste management hierarchy, polluter pays principle, proximity principle, extended producer responsibility.
Identify targets set by EU directives, relevant to this sector and understand the role of regulatory authorities, EPA, Local authorities, IPPC licenses.
Hazardous and non-hazardous waste, waste disposal license, spill control and control techniques.

Assessment Description: Learners will be required to do a number of group/individual based assessments. These could include, assignments, real life scenarios, risk assessment identification and reports in addition possible in class group work. Learners will be required to produce a portfolio of assessments that address the learning outcomes over the period of the semester. |
