Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate the ability to participate in a debate style forum/classroom, discussing current/emerging international accounting developments/practices and posing arguments clearly and effectively.
LO2 Identify and interpret international accounting problems and critically assess accounting, audit, tax, and investment issues arising from those problems.
LO3 Independently research the context of current accounting issues with a view to generating and communicating potential solutions by applying rigorous professional and academic standards.
LO4 Prepare a disciplinary framework for anticipating, addressing and preparing for emerging issues in international accounting.
LO5 Critically discuss a wider perspective on accounting, encompassing an international perspective on developments in the accounting profession, practice and research.

Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Given that the module is focused on current issues in international accounting, a flexible approach to both content and delivery is adopted. Relevant and current accounting topics will be selected with the view to covering the following content:
Participation and Presentation Skills: How to participate in group/class discussions on practical accounting topics (including international topics). How to effectively argue your point, critique other views and take constructive criticism. Critical thinking and professional communication. Independent Research: How to undertake independent research on a current/emerging topic, how to engage with the literation and communicate the research effectively highlighting the key points. International Accounting in Practice: Current and emerging international accounting issues including issues relating to accounting, audit, tax and investment issues. Professional accounting standards pertaining to those issues and application of same. Accounting in Practice (Ireland): Current and emerging accounting issues in Ireland including issues relating to accounting, audit, tax and investment issues. Professional accounting standards pertaining to those issues and application of same. Disciplinary Framework (Ireland and Internationally) including ethical considerations of emerging practices.
