Project
A practical work-based project is undertaken. The project must use state-of-the-art techniques, technologies and methodologies. Learners will be expected to develop specialist skills for this project beyond those covered in the off-the-job modules. The project specification is decided by the apprentice in consultation with both their industry mentor and their academic supervisor.
The main project deliverables which are assessed separately include:
• project proposal
• requirements specification
• preliminary report
• final report
• final presentation and defence
The timeline for completion of module deliverables is as follows:
• By the mid of Semester four apprentices define and submit a project proposal.
• At the end of Semester four, apprentices submit a requirement specification document.
• At the end of Semester five, apprentices present a preliminary report outlining their progress to date and demonstrating that the main technical difficulties have been solved.
• At the end of semester six, learners will present their findings in both a written report and formal presentation to a panel of examiners.
In order to ensure consistency of learning opportunities for apprentices across all workplaces, a learning agreement will be completed at a meeting of the Apprentice, Mentor and Academic Supervisor. This meeting will take place within three weeks of the commencement of the module.
