On successful completion of this programme the learner will be able to :

• Discuss and interpret the information content of financial statements and formulate and evaluate financial strategies
• Appreciate the development of and challenges facing the International Financial Services Industry
• Demonstrate an analytical and multi-perspective framework which will allow participants exercise appropriate judgment in evaluating the operational challenges which face both the Irish and International Financial Services
• Demonstrate proficiency in critically evaluating the role and function of a variety of market participants
• Critically evaluate both the key participants and institutions which underpin the operation of financial market, the interrelationships between them and the economic framework within which the sector operates
• Evaluate and apply the key theories, paradigms, tools and techniques used by modern financers and economists within the international financial services sector
• Internalise knowledge and skills learnt through the programme and communicate informed views on the state of Financial Services industry and future developments and trends
• Independently evaluate, analyse and update their skill set in a quickly changing business environment
• Independently challenge financial and economic models, regulatory frameworks and governance codes utilised in credit and investment institutions
• Evaluate real world financial, and statistical problems as well as economic issues and demonstrate the ability to assess and analyse the problems and prepare solutions for management in particular where incomplete information or business constraints may be present
• Evaluate and critique the factors and strategies aimed at maximising value creation across the various key product areas
• Collect and evaluate data relating to economic, legal, regulatory and financial issues and problems and apply appropriate theory, codes of practice and methodologies in recommending solutions
• Demonstrate an integrated theoretical and practical perspective across a wide range of products and services which are traded within financial markets
• Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the current and future challenges facing the international financial services sector at both an individual and macro level
• Analyse and interpret current financial, economic and social debate and examine its impact on the Irish economy and, in particular, the Irish financial services sector
• Unify and synthesise knowledge gained in disparate subject matter areas and apply this knowledge to problem solving in an unfamiliar setting
• Investigate and analyse the governance of an organisation and make recommendations based on the codes of best practice and the legal framework within which they operate
• Analyse company reports, financial statements and economic and statistical data using specialised analytical tools and defend and present recommendations to both specialist and non-specialist audience’s
• Critically assess the economic, legal and regulatory factors that impact on organisations in both in a domestic and international context
• Utilise their integrated technical knowledge and practical perspective across a wide range of interrelated functional areas which underpin the operation of the international financial services sector both domestically and abroad
• Select, validate and apply economic financial and regulatory theory, concepts and models to represent and solve real world problem
• Evaluate the role of accounting standards, legal disclosure requirements and corporate governance within the context of the financial services
• Demonstrate proficiency in the current technical language used within financial services and critically evaluate the financial, governance and regulatory professional standards which underpin the international financial services sector
