Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Week 1 - Digital Pedagogies
Recap on prior module and overview of current module Exercise reviewing digital capabilities for teaching and learning and setting goals for the development of practice in relation to standards communicated in competency frameworks (TEL practice framework, DigCompEdu, DigCompEduOrg) Discussion exploring current teaching and learning practices and opportunities for enhancement. Presentation and discussion addressing theories and models of learning, and the development of digital pedagogies. Activity to create a learning design. Demonstration of classroom/workshop technologies (e.g. Interactive whiteboards. Presentation tools. Lecture capture. Polling / response systems) as well as discussion on mobile computing and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) considerations. Introduction to assessment and formation of discussion groups to support project generation and development.
Week 2 - Blended Learning Environments
Directed self-study of materials addressing the use of Moodle in teaching and learning. Activity to set-up a Moodle course (developed through current and subsequent module).
Week 3 - Blended Learning Environments
Presentation and discussion addressing the design of blended learning environments (preparation for week 4).
Week 4 - Blended Learning Environments
Directed self-study of materials addressing blended learning, including synchronous and asynchronous activities (follow-up to week 3). Activity to talk to colleagues about their use of online learning environments, and to learners about their experiences and expectations of online learning environments, and to consider the opportunities for making more effective use of online learning environments for blended learning (Discussion forum)
Week 5 - Presentations
Practitioner presentations of stage 1 assignment
Week 6 - Digital Content
Directed self-study of materials addressing digital content (curation versus creation), including use considerations such as copyright and accessibility (preparation for week 7). Activity to consider opportunities for integrating digital content into learning design, and completion of digital resources audit template.
Week 7 - Digital Content
Presentation and discussion addressing the development and integration of digital content into teaching, and the facilitation of learners as creators of digital content, including selection of tools (follow-up to week 6).
Week 8 - Communication and Collaboration – The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
Directed self-study of materials addressing communication and collaboration tools in the VLE. Activity to use communication and collaboration tools in Moodle.
Week 9 - Communication and Collaboration – The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
Presentation and discussion addressing collaborative learning strategies.
Week 10 - Communication and Collaboration – The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
Directed self-study of materials addressing the use of virtual classroom technologies. Activity to plan/implement a virtual classroom session.
Week 11 - Reading Week
Completion of stage 2 assignments
Week 12 - Presentations and Professional Development Planning
Practitioner presentations of stage 2 assignments. Activity to update e-portfolio. Module review and revised action planning.
