Module Content & Assessment

Indicative Content
Week 1 - Introduction
Interactive exercise to prompt reflection and discussion on current and desired digital practices using the Visitor and Residents framework. Presentation and discussion to exploring meanings and understandings of technology-enhanced learning (TEL), the impact of digital technologies on the sector, and the policy context for development of TEL within the sector. Programme overview. Guided introduction to the blended learning environment (Moodle), virtual classroom (Adobe Connect) and e-portfolio (Mahara). Introduction to assessment and formation of discussion groups to support project generation and development. Presentation and discussion on the role of the learning journal and exploring digital tools for personal reflection.
Week 2 - Digital Capabilities – The Digital Learner
Directed self-study of materials addressing characteristics of the digital learner, and the significance of investigating, understanding and facilitating learner digital capabilities and expectations. Activity to talk to colleagues about their understanding of learners’ current digital capabilities, and how these might be enhanced through teaching, learning and assessment, and to outline an approach to investigating learners’ digital capabilities in the practice setting, which will inform the stage 1 assignment (Discussion forum).
Week 3 - Digital Capabilities – Practitioner Capabilities
Presentation and discussion addressing digital competence frameworks.
Week 4 - Digital Capabilities – Organisational Capabilities
Directed self-study of materials addressing organisational capabilities for technology-enhanced learning, e.g. policies, infrastructure, resources, and the significance of investigating and understanding these capabilities. Activity to talk to colleagues about their understanding of their organisation’s current digital capabilities, and to outline an approach to investigating organisational digital capabilities in the practice setting, which will inform the stage 2 assignment. Week 5 - Presentations
Practitioner presentations of stage 1 assignment
Week 6 - Learner Experience and Learning Design
Directed self-study of materials addressing learner experience and learning design (preparation for week 7) Activity to reflect on personal experience as a learner in this module in the light of a learning design model explored (Discussion forum)
Week 7 - Learner Experience and Learning Design
Presentation and discussion addressing learner experience and learning design (follow-up to week 6)
Week 8 - The Reflective Digital Practitioner
Directed self-study of materials addressing reflective practice and practitioner inquiry (preparation for week 9) Activity to select, read and evaluate a practitioner’s action research account of integrating technology into teaching and learning (Discussion forum)
Week 9 - The Reflective Digital Practitioner
Presentation and discussion addressing action research as a model for practitioner inquiry in the development of digital practice (follow-up to directed activities in Week 8).
Week 10 - Digital Learning Futures
Directed self-study of materials addressing emerging technologies, as well as possible, probable and preferable impacts on education and training. Activity to talk to colleagues about the impact of digital technologies on further education and training, and to consider possible, probable and preferable scenarios (Discussion forum)
Week 11 - Reading Week
Completion of stage 2 assignment
Week 12 - Presentations and Professional Development Planning
