Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify the key structures of the Irish and European legal system and explain how they apply to business in Ireland.
LO2 Identify the formal requirements for entering into a valid contract, apply principles of contract law to practical situations and determine appropriate solutions to problems.
LO3 Identify and explain the key provisions of commercial legislation that apply to business.
LO4 Demonstrate a good understanding of the duty of care that a business owes to its customers, clients, consumers and employees.
LO5 Demonstrate good appreciation of how the employer and employee relationship is created and the rights and duties that flow from that relationship.
LO6 Demonstrate an awareness of how businesses are regulated in Ireland and a good knowledge of the different agencies and institutions involved
LO7 Distinguish between the main types of business entities and demonstrate a good understanding of the legal rules that apply to the operation of a company, its officers and members.
LO8 Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the rights, duties and liabilities which apply when a company faces insolvency.

Rules of civil liability, negligence and specific torts.
Employment Law
Contracts of employment and contracts for services, Protective legislation, Data protection.
Company Law & Partnership Law
Introduction to partnership law, formation of a company, corporate Personality, capital of the company, management and administration, Winding up and Protection Orders, Receivers and Investigations
