Teaching methodology
The dissertation module forms part of the elective suite for final year students. The option of completing a dissertation should not be taken lightly and is more suited to those academically strong students. Therefore students who wish to be considered for participation in the dissertation module in their award must meet a number of qualifying criteria; Only students who have achieved an overall average of 2.1 or higher will be considered eligible for the dissertation option. In addition those students who intend to undertake a dissertation in their award year must attend an induction workshop on electing a research topic in semester 2 of year 2 There is no ‘fall-back’ option for students in the event of a dissertation project running into difficulties therefore it is essential that students consider carefully this option and discuss it with a member of academic staff in advance of their final decision. Students are advised to take a full complement of modules until such time as they have successfully met the qualifying criteria as outlined above. Students will be allocated a supervisor specialising in their particular subject area. Students will be invited to share common problems and pitfalls as well as to present their progress and research question to their peers.
